An absolutely?stunning lion's head locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This stunning piece is made of 14kt yellow gold and features the raised image of a fierce lion's head in the center. The lion is enameled and ornately detailed with diamond eyes, a swirling mane, and an open mouth in mid-roar, complete with pointed fangs. A single sparkling diamond in a 6-prong setting is clenched in between his front teeth and the locket opens at the base to reveal two spaces behind glass to store special photographs inside. At the top of the piece is a simple yellow gold bail, making it easy to hang. The back of the locket is engraved with a large scrolling monogram. This eye-catching locket has magnificent detail and would look fabulous worn on a gold chain. It would make a wonderful addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The hangs 1 3/4" long including the bail, has a diameter of?approximately?1 1/2" and measures approximately 3/4" at its thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or enamel and all of the diamonds are intact. The locket opens easily and closes securely and the bail is secure and in good working condition.
